first things first, what the futon is galauity? ah well, maybe no one will ever know.
kidding.
it’s been quite a while since i wrote nothing just for the sake of writing. writing something that is not for the pure sense of fiction or literature, but for the notion of getting things out of the system. my sistem.
so here i go.
how has my life been? i must answer, vibrant. smiles decorate my everyday, happiness does fill my heart, yes it does.
but living doesn’t only mean being happy right? sure, it is correct that happiness is the goal of every human soul, in its different senses and meanings.
but i believe happiness is not just about smiling. it’s about doing things while smiling.
of course, that is just a thought.
so rather than just smiling all day like a psycho (or somebody high), i decided to finally get things done.
and here comes gichie the busy boy.
first of all, debating. ever since the start of the new academic year, my WSDC status has obliged me to put debating on my priority list. september (and ramadhan) saw me and the rest of team indonesia join asdc in manila.
manila wasn’t so different from jakarta, trust me. sure, they have the biggest mall in asia (aptly named the mall of asia) but even that didn’t beat the whole experience of just walking through the grandeur of jakarta’s dismissive socialites.
nor did it beat the experience of getting lost in the maze of gangs in bandung’s version of the urban jungle. but that is just something else altogether.
the team did not come home with a trophy. rifky did get a medal for being seventh best speaker, but irfan and i did not. garlan did not break as a breaking adj either, but oh well.
we did, however, come home with thousands of pesos worth of souvenirs. oh wait, that wasn’t the point. we came home with honour, but wait, that sounds so commercial.
we came home with a bunch of new friends from the corners of asia. from as far as qatar (hey that rhymes!), the island of hong kong, to the nearest neighbours of south-east asia.
we learnt how to count in arabic and cantonese (not filipino, however). we were given nicknames. we rode taxis, and realized that blue bird was much better than any filipino taxi (sorry folks!). we saw jeepneys but never had the chance to ride them.
well, we learnt many things and experienced many more.
and the team learnt how to be a team. sleeping together with all the fun and friction really helps to build friendship and strong teamwork.
but then again, i also had to leave someone for fourteen days, and that meant fourteen days without seeing a face that never ceases to make me smile.
then work. it does seem a bit crazy that i’m actually joining a magazine venture with a couple of my friends, being in senior year and all, but i made the choice, and it won’t hurt my CV. i was appointed the post of chief creative officer at Edun!, and thus i had to design things. the first thing was the website.
and this is how it ended up: http://edunmagz.com/
but before it ended up like that, i spent two twelve-hour periods programming and designing the whole website. i originally started with an existing framework for making the theme, but i decided to just scrap that and make my own. and that meant a lot of work. and that meant focusing on my iMac’s screen and not my phone’s.
and that meant not texting much. that was another sacrifice.
and then, seven wonders. i’m in senior year and i said yes to an offer to play in a short movie. shooting hasn’t started, but i think it’ll keep me [too] occupied when it does start.
the fourth would be studying. i really should start, but i still can’t. arrrr.
but then again, life is not always about being economically (or rationally) productive. sometimes you do just need to socialize.
that’s why you have friends.
that’s why i have them. three young philosophers with three different views on love, life, and happiness. three avid creators… who still haven’t started working on their book. but mind not, it’ll start brewing by itself one day, right?
that is also why i’m thankful to have friends around me, who i can’t name one by one. and who even if i can, i still won’t because this post is supposed to be nameless. but i’m just very grateful to be able to know and make friends with such wonderful people.
and friendship is not something to break, which is why i felt really relieved an old friend started talking to me again. we had great fun, but we had to part, for my friend has now moved out of town.
but aside from all that, there is one thing that weaves everything together: love.
be it the love of a divine deity.
be it the love of family.
be it the love of friends.
love is everywhere, love is within you. many people have defined love and they might as well all be right.
and there is one person i especially love.
for what reasons, i don’t know. they say love is a reason on its own. and she would be one big reason why smiles decorate my everyday and happiness fills my heart.
to that person, i thank you very much.
and i just realized that ‘tea’ and ‘galauity’ rhyme.
